Cecile Joncas was born in Quebec in the winter of 1889. Her parents were Edmond and Marie Loilda Ezilda (Blais) Joncas. She grew up speaking French at home. Edmond Joncas was a sea captain and Crown Land Agent.
Cecile lived in Chicago many years. For some time she was the governess to Frank Beaches, of US Steel and E. N. Hurley, as well as a French teacher. She attended the University of Illinois for at least a year. At the time of her application to the Army, she was living with Pierce G. Teter in Chicago. [She claimed that he was her uncle, although the relationship may have been more distant than being a parent’s sibling.]
After weeks of training, Cecile became part of the Seventh Group, and ultimately did not deploy to France.
Cecile returned to Quebec, where she married a man named Leopold Breton. She died in 1967 and is buried in St. Laurent Cemetery, Montreal.
